The TXF150-75 name tells you the machine handles 75cm media, but the spec sheet usually has two numbers: max media width and max printable width. I want to say the current datasheet lists max media width at 750mm and max printable width at 724mm, but don't quote me; Mimaki support can send current numbers. Ask to see a diagram of the printable area with margins. If you plan a 10-up layout and the edge margin takes 2mm more than you expected, you might end up with an 8-up layout. That is a daily production loss, not a one-time spec annoyance.

2. Calculate line speed, not print speed

The spec sheet might quote a m²/h number. That number usually measures printhead output under clean conditions. What I mean is the actual DTF line includes film loading, printing, powder application, shaking, curing, and cooling. Add white ink coverage for dark shirts and the speed changes.

This is the same trap with a fast UV printer. A fast flatbed can quote an impressive m²/h, but if your parts require multiple passes, the actual number is lower. Ask the manufacturer: 'What is realistic throughput on 100% cotton dark shirts with standard quality?' If they say it depends, ask them to define the worst case.

Oh, and if you are looking at an inkjet printer large enough for banners, calculate finishing time too: laminating, cutting, and rolling all count.

3. White ink behavior is a hidden spec

DTF production uses a lot of white ink. It is the most expensive consumable and the most likely to cause downtime. Ask whether the system has white ink circulation. If you run short shifts or small batches, that feature can pay for itself in fewer clogs.

Then calculate realistic cost per shirt. Take the vendor's cost per square meter and add 10-15% for purges, nozzle checks, and test prints. My first estimate was off by $0.03 per square foot. That sounds small until you multiply by 2,000 shirts.

4. Demand a color proof with a Delta E measurement

The 'it looked okay in the shop' method is not a color standard. If your client gives you a Pantone color, the industry tolerance for brand-critical colors is Delta E under 2. Delta E of 2-4 is noticeable to trained observers, and above 4 is visible to most people.

I once approved a DTF transfer that looked fine at the shop. Under daylight it looked green. The sample matched the manufacturer profile, but not the client's expectation.
