Mimaki Solvent & Large Format Printers: What 200+ Rush Orders Taught Me
Here's the short version: If you run a print shop with deadlines measured in hours, a Mimaki solvent printer or large-format flatbed is one of the few investments I'd make again without a second thought. If someone sends you a file and says 'this is a DTF printer PNG,' they usually mean a transparent PNG at 300 DPI. The printer itself doesn't print the PNG directly. The RIP software turns that PNG into CMYK plus white ink layers. Transparent backgrounds tell the RIP where to place the white underbase. I've watched orders get delayed because a PNG arrived with a white box or a checkerboard background. So when the client says 'DTF printer PNG,' ask for transparency and 300 DPI before you start.

And if you mostly print text documents, laser will save you money and time.
Your local support network matters more than the printer brand. We chose Mimaki partly because our local dealer offers fast service and spare parts. If you're in an area with poor support, any large-format printer becomes a risk. Get the service situation resolved before you sign the order.
Trust the data, not the marketing
Per FTC guidelines (ftc.gov), advertising claims need to be truthful and substantiated. So when someone says a printer has 'zero downtime' or 'never fails,' ask for service logs and references.
